Do something today that scares you
Do something today that scares you
What will it be...?
I’m talking about emotionally scary things.
I’m not asking you to put your life on the line and run into a burning building if you’re not a trained fire fighter, or to get in the face of a gun-toting “proud boy.”
I’m talking about:
Signing up for an online language class even though you’re “not good at languages”
Asking for that raise or promotion you know you deserve
Saying yes to selling your business to do something new and unknown
Speaking up against hate and racism when you see it happening around you
Taking one small step toward a bigger goal—any goal—from cleaning out your closet to changing careers
What is it that scares you?
Then ask yourself WHY [that thing] scares you.
Is it that you’re afraid to fail, to be disappointed in yourself, to be embarrassed of what other people will think if you try and “fail”?
Whatever scares you, remember that it’s not the thing that scares you….
It’s your own thoughts that scare you — It’s the fear of failing, of being disappointed in yourself, of worrying about what other people will think of you.
But if you don’t even try, you’re essentially failing ahead of time.
You’re disappointing yourself.
You’re worrying about what other people think instead of what YOU think about you.
How do you want to feel about you?
Doing things that scare you will help you increase your self-confidence.
The more you do things that scare you, the more you prove to yourself that you have the courage to do big things.
Maybe you think, “I’m just not a person who... [insert thing you want to do].”
Truth Bomb:
Your identity is not fixed — It is created daily.
Actions increase self-confidence, because actions increase your capability. And increased capability increases your confidence.
So, what can you do today to increase your confidence?
Who do you want to be?
Figure that out and go start to be that person!
Me? I want to be brave.
