What do you spend money on?

The more important question:

What do you love to spend money on?

And, Why do you love spending money on that?

Knowing this answer, will help you become aware of what’s truly important to you.

Personal story coming…

Years ago, I would go for one-hour electrolysis treatments every other week. I was having the hair under my arms permanently removed — I warned you this was going to get personal. 🙃

Adding up all the $49-$89 treatments, it was probably close to a $3,000 investment in the end.

And I’m soooo happy I chose to spend my money on that.

I haven’t shaved—or nicked—under my arms in almost 20 years! ❤️

Totally worth it!

One day, as I was headed to one of my long lunchtime appointments, a close co-worker asked me where I was headed:

  • I told him.

  • He was surprised.

  • He asked how much it cost.

  • At the time, I think it was $89.

  • I told him.

  • He was like, “What? I would NEVER pay that much money for something like that!”

  • I replied, “And I would never pay for a round of drinks for a bunch of strangers at a bar. I guess we just have different priorities.”

He’d just told me about how he’d gone out to a bar the night before and charged $100 of drinks to his credit card to buy a round for everyone. (Something I thought was crazy-town!)

Priorities, baby!

What you decide to spend your money on is window into your soul.

Or at least, a window into your priorities.

Personally, my favorite things to spend money on are:

  • fresh flowers,

  • a business-class flight to a beautiful place, and

  • an interesting or spacious Airbnb.

Oh, how I miss travel!
(Come on vaccine… I want to travel again!)

So, travel is my favorite thing to spend money on.

It gives me a new perspective and it doesn’t create clutter in my home.

Why do you buy things?

Many of my clients are surrounded by physical clutter…

  • things they don’t wear or use

  • things they used to love but no longer do

  • things they bought because they thought it would make them look cool or interesting

I’m guilty of that last one, for sure!

I am NOT a minimalist when it comes to my clothing.

No black t-shirts here. I’m all polka dots, stripes, and LOTS of color.

I have a thought that I express myself through my clothing.

So, I get it.

Spend your money how you want to spend your money.

It’s your money after all.

But let’s just bring some awareness to it.

Two questions for you:

What was the last thing you bought...besides toilet paper or food?

And, what exactly were your thoughts about how having that [thing] was going to make your life better?
