What to do with precious items [2-minute video]

Loose video transcript:

Some of us treat our possessions as “precious.”

What do I mean by precious?

Precious is...

  • that designer dress you bought that you never wear because you’re waiting for that very special occasion that never comes. And when it does come, the dress is out of style!

Precious is also…

  • that under-the-eye cream, hair care product, or perfume that you never use because it’s too amazing or too expensive and you don’t want to use it up.

And precious is…

  • letting your grandmother’s china sit in a bureau for 353 days a year, only pulling it out to use for holidays.

Today, I am wearing one of my “precious” items.

And I’ve decided that it will be precious no more!

The white shorts

I don’t wear white and I certainly don’t wear white shorts. I’m afraid I’ll get coffee on them or spill spaghetti or something terrible will happen to them.

I also never know when I’m going to get around to washing something white. When I don’t have white items in my life, I never have enough laundry accumulate to do a full load of wash.

So, let’s be real

Here’s what’s gonna happen—

I’m gonna wash them with all my other clothes.

If I want to give up the preciousness that is these white shorts, I need to just let it go and wear them.

Because what’s the point in having something in your drawer or closet that you don’t wear because it’s too nice?!

So, I’m going to start wearing these white shorts until I have to start calling them my gray shorts.

The challenge:

Look around and ask yourself—

Are you treating anything as precious? Where you’re not using it or not wearing it?

And how can you reconcile with yourself to stop treating that thing as precious?
