Are you living a just-in-case life?

I just finished the last drop of a favorite bath oil. It came in this beautiful bottle.

It hurts me to just recycle it. So... do I keep it just-in-case I find a use for it?

No, I won’t live a just-in-case life.

What’s a just-in-case life?

Keeping excess things out of fear that you may someday need them—that they could be useful, that you will regret not keeping them.

So you keep a thing just-in-case.

And I know! I get it!

It’s so hard to discard this beautiful bottle!

I mean, it’s beautiful and “so usable.”

But…
I don’t actually have a use for it right now.

I’m not keeping it.

Don’t keep things for just-in-case reasons.

So, unless you are planning to re-use that thing right now—

  • Recycle it.

  • Give it away.

  • Donate it.

Get it out of your house before your house becomes a graveyard of beautiful, old, unused, dusty jars.

This also applies to take-out containers and shoe boxes—even certain relationships, clients, and jobs.

We hold these things out of fear that we might need them someday.

But, living a just-in-case life will only lead to physical and mental clutter.

Don’t do it.

Your turn.

Action:

Look around your home (and your life)—check your cupboards, drawers, and countertops (both physical and mental).

What items are you keeping just in case?

What are you afraid will happen if you get rid of them?

If you don’t need them now or have a definite plan for them in the next 3 weeks, get rid of ‘em!
