Candles in the bathroom—for “poop reasons”
We all love candles in the bathroom, don’t we?!
The sweet smell of “Wild Fig” or “Prosecco Pear” sure beats some of the other smells that come out of the bathroom!
So, now. It’s time for a public service announcement of sorts.
A friend left me a voice message the other day. She said:
Oh my gosh! My sister almost burned my house down.
She said her sister had been staying with her for the past few months.
My friend had lit a candle in the bathroom—"for poop reasons," she said.
Her shy tone cracked me up.
“Obviously.” I said. 😂
Anyway, so... she had lit a candle "for poop reasons" then later, her sister went into the bathroom to brush her teeth, etc.
When she dried her hands on the towel, the towel fell.
You know what’s coming...
The towel fell onto the candle and poof—up in flames!
Her sister was able to put the fire out with another towel (thank God!), but this story is all too common.
Not the first time a bathroom candle has caused trouble
I met a couple at a Christmas party in Brooklyn last year. They were talking about how their family home almost burned down after someone (visiting at Christmastime dropped a towel on a lit candle and didn't notice).
They all went to bed and woke up to smoke filling the hallways.
Luckily everyone survived—except for the entire 2nd floor of their childhood home.
So... I love candles as much as the next lady, but please please please—do NOT leave them unattended in the bathroom.
If you must... place them on the sink or on the back of the toilet, but definitely NOT under any type of towel rack (as I now hear is a TERRIBLE IDEA).
Wishing you a safe and happy holiday!!
